Barcelona

Our trip to Barcelona started off a little rocky with our bags getting left in Madrid but we made the best of it and did a little shopping at H&M :) We got our bags back in Munich once we were home for a few days. So, here is our two days in Barcelona in pictures! Enjoy :)

We started off our day with a Fat Tire Bike Tour. They have tours all over Europe and I have done a few of them. Bike tours are a great way to see a city especially when you are short on time. Barcelona is a big city so we were glad we did a bike tour! Our first major stop was at the Arch de Triomf which was built for the 1888 World Fair.

Our next stop on the tour was Ciutadella Park which is home to a beautiful fountain. We then biked for what felt like a really long time to our next location. I never realized how spread out Barcelona is!

We then made it to La Sagrada Familia. (That is the picture at the top of this blog post) La Sagrada Familia is very interesting because it is still being built and isn't expected to be finished until 2026. Construction started on this basilica in 1882 and was designed by Antoni Gaudi who is actually buried inside. It is really crazy to see up close.

We went back after our bike tour to go inside La Sagrada Familia. My favorite part was the beautiful stained glass windows.

Since it was New Years Eve, we made a reservation at a restaurant to ring in the new year. A Spanish tradition on NYE is, at the strike of midnight, eat 12 green grapes. One grape for every stroke of midnight. This supossedly brings good luck for the whole year. We definitely had to partake in this tradition since we were in Spain :)

On New Years Day, we had brunch, saw some more of Gaudi's designs, and went to the beach. Here are some pictures from that day.

Casa Battlo - designed by Gaudi (same architect as La Sagrada Familia)

Park Guell - also designed by Gaudi. This is a big park on a hill with beautiful views of the city.

Barceloneta Beach - my favorite spot in Barcelona :)

We found a great spot right on the beach for yummy patatas bravas and croquettes.

Our final evening in Barcelona we had a reservation at an AMAZING Spanish restaurant called Telerifc. We had a great evening dreaming and making plans for 2020. Our whole Spain trip was a great way to kick off the new year. We can't wait to see what's in store for this year!
