Italian Dolomites

At the beginning of September we took a quick weekend trip down to the Italian Dolomites region of Italy. The Dolomites are a beautiful mountain range in the northeastern part of Italy. I couldn't believe it was just a quick 3 hour drive from Munich. We did two hikes throughout the weekend and it was so much fun. The first hike we did was on Seceda mountain and this was definitely our favorite. We took a gondola to the top and then you could hike all around the mountain. They have a few different huts throughout the area where you can stop for a bite to eat or to take a break. We absolutely LOVE taking Tex on hikes so these two hikes were no exception. He is the best hiker and goes completely off leash for most of the hike. He has the best time! Check out our pictures from our hike at Seceda. (This post will be picture overload. We took so many pictures!)

We stayed for two nights in the small town of Ortisei. We had a great time walking around the little town having coffee and gelato and pizza for dinner! This part of Italy is much more German/Austrian than Italian as most people speak German and the food has a German influence as well.

Our second hike that we did was to a gorgeous lake on top of a mountain called Lago di Sorapis. I had read that this hike was extremely popular so we tried to start early. Even then, it was SO crowded both on the trail and at the top. While the lake was still gorgeous, it was hard to truly enjoy it with so many people. I can't even imagine what it would be like in "Non-Covid" times. I tried to crop out all of the people so it looks nice and peaceful :) Here are the pictures from this hike:

This was such an incredible weekend. The Italian Dolomites have tons of hikes so we can't wait to go back and explore some new hikes in the area. We had such a blast!
