Lucerne & Liechtenstein

To kick off my sister and Glenn coming to Europe, Drew, Tex, and I drove to Switzerland for the weekend!  (It was about a 3.5 hour drive! Oh, and Drew had a lot of fun driving in parts of Germany because there are no speed limits!) We met up in Zurich and did a night there. After that, we drove to Lucerne and spent the whole day there. I must say Lucerne is absolutely beautiful!!

The drive up to the gondola.
Breakfast time!

We had a lovely breakfast outside at Gugelhupf Cafe and then started driving through the winding streets up towards Mt. Pilatus. Mt. Pilatus is a huge mountain where they have tons of outdoor activities. They have hiking, biking, ropes courses, tree camping, and the world's longest summer toboggan. Check out their website here! You can take the world's steepest cogwheel railway to the very top or take a gondola. We took a small gondola about halfway up and then did a 45 minute hike. Once we reached that point, there were tons of activities and food. We then took the panoramic gondola up to the very top!

On the gondola up to the point where we would start our hike!

Tex met cows for the first time. He wasn't so sure at first!

Once at the top, the views were breathtaking. There are a few restaurants and even a hotel at the very top of the mountain. You could really spend several days exploring the mountain and all the activities! We really want to go back and do the tree camping! How much fun would that be? Check out our pictures from the top of the mountain which is 6,982 feet.

After exploring the top of the mountain, we came back down on the gondola and had a bite to eat. From Lucerne we then drove to Liechtenstein, the 6th smallest country in the world! We went to dinner and then explored Liechtenstein the next morning. We went to the main square and saw the Vaduz Castle, which is still the current residence of the prince of Liechtenstein.

Exploring downtown Vaduz. This picture cracks me up every time!

Vaduz Castle - still inhabited today by the prince and his family.

Oh, and here's one more! This had me laughing until I cried!

We then started our drive back to Munich and we made a stop for lunch in Austria that overlooked a beautiful lake! My sister and Glenn went to the airport to go see a few more countries and then came back to see us in time to go to Oktoberfest. We had a great time with them in Munich! My next post will be all about Malta, which is where my sister and I went for a few days! I hope you all are enjoying this blog. I love reading your comments, the more the merrier :)
