GREECE

At the beginning of July we were so fortunate enough to be able to travel to the beautiful country of Greece. We were there for about 12 days and we went to 3 different islands and explored the capital of Athens. It was a trip of a lifetime! One of our favorite things was that there were hardly any other tourists. This made for so many enjoyable and peaceful experiences.

The adventure began when we traveled by train to Vienna, Austria and then from there took a flight to Athens. Upon arrival in Athens they were doing random COVID-19 testing and guess who was lucky enough to be chosen? Yep, me and Drew :) (The results were negative just by the way!) Our fist night in Athens we went and had Mexican food for dinner (LOL!). Maybe it has been too long since I've had real Mexican food but it was really delicious!

The next day we had breakfast on the hotel rooftop with wonderful views of the Acropolis. We then made our way up towards the Acropolis so we could tour the grounds. There were only a handful of people on site which made for a really enjoyable time. After the Acropolis we went and saw a few other ancient ruins. It was incredibly hot in Athens so after walking around the city all day we headed back to the hotel for some rooftop pool time :) For dinner, we found an amazing Japanese restaurant. I know what you are thinking... Why aren't they eating Greek food in Greece? Well, we figured we would have plenty of chances to eat all the Greek food once on the islands and I'm not really the biggest fan of Greek food anyway. Oh, and after dinner we went to this eclectic dessert place called the Little Kook that had a theme of Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland. Just wait until you see the picture of our desserts!

The view from our hotel!

The Parthenon- former temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. Construction started in 447 BC!

At the Acropolis with me and all my friends!

Oreo milkshake with a donut on top! What?!

Now, on to the islands!! Our first island stop was to Mykonos. We took a ferry between the islands which was a great way to travel. On each of the islands we rented ATVs in order to get around. Not only was it super fun but it was such an easy way to get from place to place around the island. My favorite thing to do in Mykonos was walk around Little Venice. This area is right on the water and there's tons of restaurants and little shops. Here are some of the highlights from our three days in Mykonos:

First stop, the beach!

Took our ATV to the northern part of the island to see a lighthouse and some beautiful views of the sea.

I love the tiny walkways of Mykonos.

Pete the pelican hangs out all over the island. We caught him shopping for something cold to drink!

Little Venice - my favorite spot in Mykonos!

Dinner our first night in Mykonos- Drew got seafood spaghetti!

The famous windmills of Mykonos!

Spent part of our last full day at a fantastic beach club!

Our next island was our favorite, Santorini! Santorini was absolutely stunning and the views were just incredible. We stayed in the town of Imerovigli which is a more quiet part of the island. We were in Santorini for four days and we had a great time. I also was able to celebrate my 30th birthday here! One of my favorite things about Santorini was we had a delicious breakfast every morning on our balcony overlooking the caldera. I never wanted to leave! Another favorite for both of us was the sunset catamaran cruise around the island. We did this on my birthday and it was so special. Seeing the island and the sunset from the water was just stunning. Here are the highlights from Santorini:

Beautiful village of Oia!

Sunset in Santorini is just breathtaking.

Breakfast is served... Seriously, I could get used to this!

Birthday hike from our hotel to Oia (about 4 miles).

Gyros- chicken, tomatoes, tzatziki, onions, & french fries! We loved eating these for lunches.

Same as above but just deconstructed.

Birthday catamaran cruise!

Turning 30 feels pretty great :)

Drew had the crew surprise me with everyone singing happy birthday and dessert!

We are SO excited to welcome our little one in December :) She is quite well-traveled already!

Our final island was to the lesser known island of Milos. While Milos wasn't our favorite, it was still a beautiful island and definitely had a more relaxed vibe. Drew celebrated part of his 29th birthday while we were here :) Our favorite part of Milos was when we rented a boat for the morning to see the Kleftiko cove. We also really enjoyed having dinner in the port and checking out all of the super fancy boats. Here are some photos from our four days in Milos.

Exploring the northern part of the island!

Sarakiniko Beach

Sunset from our hotel porch!

Can you spot Drew? This beach is only accessible by going down a tiny ladder with a rope.

Heading to dinner for our last night in Milos!

Sunset and dinner at the port.

Beautiful Kleftiko!

Birthday boy!

To end our trip, we took a ferry back to Athens and then went out to eat for Drew's birthday. Drew chose a super delicious Chinese food restaurant. Athens really has quite the food scene! Our trip to Greece was such a blast and we felt so lucky to be traveling without so many people. Which island would you want to visit?
